Bintang Betelgeuse

Betelgeuse (Alpha (α) Orionis) adalah bintang yang terletak 427 tahun cahaya dari Bumi. Bintang ini merupakan bintang paling terang kedua di rasi bintang Orion. Ia adalah super-raksasa merah sekitar 13.000 kali lebih terang dari matahari kita dan lebih dari 1000 kali lebih besar. Jika Anda ditempatkan Betelgeuse di tempat matahari kita, akan memperpanjang masa orbit Jupiter.

Nama Betelgeuse berasal dari kata Bait al-Jauzā, berasal dari bahasa Arab yang berarti "rumah sang raksasa".

Bintang Achemar

Bintang paling terang kesembilan di langit malam adalah Achernar. Bintang ini adalah putih kebiruan yang sangat terang yang sekitar 69 tahun cahaya dari Bumi.

Bintang ini merupakan bintang yang misterius, karena untuk mengetahui lebih banyak tentang Achemar sangatlah susah.

Bintang Procyon

Procyon (α CMi / α Canis Minoris / Alpha Canis Minoris) adalah bintang paling terang di rasi Canis Minor. Dengan mata telanjang tampak sebagai bintang tunggal dengan magnitudo tampak 0,34. Procyon sebenarnya adalah sebuah sistem bintang ganda yang terdiri dari sebuah bintang deret utama dengan kelas spektrum F5 IV-V, dinamai Procyon A, dan sebuah katai putih dengan kelas spektrum DA yang dinamai Procyon B. Pada jarak 3,5 parsec atau 11,41 tahun cahaya, Procyon menjadi salah satu bintang tetangga Matahari. Tetangga terdekat Procyon adalah Bintang Luyten, pada jarak 0,34 pc atau 1,11 tahun cahaya.

Nama Procyon berasal dari bahasa Yunani προκύον (prokyon), berarti "sebelum sang anjing (muncul)", "sang anjing" merepresentasikan "Dog Star" Sirius sehingga dapat diartikan "(berada) sebelum (bintang) anjing". Bersama Sirius, Procyon disebutkan pada banyak literatur kuno Babilonia dan Mesir Kuno.

Selain itu, nama Antacenis dan nama Arab Al Shira dan Elgomeisa digunakan. Antacenis berasal dari turunan bahasa Arab الشعرى الشامية aš-ši‘ra aš-šamiyah "tanda Sirius, Syria (merepresenasi lokasi bintang ini di utara Sirius). Elgomeisa berasal dari turunan bahasa Arab الغميصاء al-ghumaisa’ "yang bermata muram", sangat kontras dengan العبور "yang berair mata" (Sirius).

Bintang Vega

Vega adalah bintang paling terang di rasi Lyra, sebuah rasi kecil namun penting yang terletak di antara rasi Hercules dan Cygnus. Bintang dengan magnitudo 0.04 yang terletak sejauh 26 tahun cahaya ini merupakan bintang paling cemerlang nomor lima di langit malam. Karena pengaruh perubahan pada sumbu rotasi bumi, maka Vega diperkirakan akan menjadi bintang kutub dalam jangka waktu 12.000 tahun mendatang. Nama Vega atau Wega diperkirakan berasal dari bahasa Arab, wāqi, yang berarti "jatuh". Nama ini berasal dari kalimat لنسر الواقع an-nasr al-wāqi‘ yang berarti "elang yang jatuh"

Rigil Kentaurus

Rigil Kentaurus atau Alpha Centauri (α Cen / α Centauri); (dikenal juga sebagai Rigil Kentaurus, Rigil Kent, atau Toliman) adalah bintang paling cerah dalam rasi Centaurus. Nama Rigil atau rigel diambilnya dari bahasa Arab yang merujuk pada kaki dengan magnitudo gabungan -0,27.

1. Sebenarnya hanya sedikit sekali jumlah bintang yang dapat kita lihat dengan mata telanjang, selebihnya tidak dapat kita lihat karena jaraknya jauh dan tidak cukup cerah. Dari seluruh bintang yang terlihat ternyata berukuran lebih besar dan lebih terang dari matahari. Lebih dari 5.000 bintang memiliki cahaya yang lebih terang yaitu skala lebih dari magnitudo 6, hanya segelintir bintang yang sangat samar memiliki ukuran yang sama dengan kecerahan matahari, sisanya semua lebih besar dan lebih cerah. Hanya 50 bintang yang paling terang yang terlihat oleh mata manusia dari Bumi, dan bintang yang paling cerah adalah bintang Alpha Centauri, 1,5 kali lebih cemerlang dari Matahari kita.

2. Bila ada yang mengatakan pada Anda bahwa ia telah menghitung jutaan bintang hanya melihat dengan mata telanjang, segeralah tinggalkan dia, karena apa yang dikatakannya itu suatu kebohongan. Faktanya, Anda tidak mungkin dapat melihat jutaan bintang di malam yang gelap sempurna sekalipun. Anda tidak dapat melihat satu juta bintang di permukaan mana saja di bumi. Pada malam yang benar-benar luar biasa cerah tanpa awan, tanpa bulan dan tanpa cahaya pengganggu sama sekali, seseorang dengan penglihatan yang sangat baik, mungkin hanya dapat melihat 2000-2500 bintang pada satu waktu.

3. Mitos warna merah dari sebuah api adalah warna area yang paling panas, ternyata salah. Warna merah merupakan suhu terendah di mana benda dipanaskan dapat bersinar dalam cahaya tampak. Bila panas terus ditingkatkan perubahan warna menjadi putih dan akhirnya menjadi biru. Jadi bintang merah yang Anda lihat di langit yang terkesan "keren" adalah bintang yang paling tidak panas, bintang-bintang biru adalah bintang yang terpanas.

4. Pada dasarnya semua bintang adalah benda hitam. Secara fisika, sebuah benda hitam adalah obyek yang menyerap 100 persen dari semua radiasi elektromagnetik (cahaya, gelombang radio dan sebagainya). Seperti sebuah oven bata dengan interior yang dicat hitam dan hanya memiliki sebuah jendela kecil. Semua cahaya yang bersinar melalui jendela diserap oleh interior oven dan tidak tercermin di luar oven. Ini adalah penyerap sempurna. Definisi ini sesuai dengan kondisi bintang yang sempurna memiliki sebuah peredam bintang yang sangat baik. Namun, jumlah energi yang diserap oleh bintang tidak sebanding dengan jumlah energi yang dipancarkan. Artinya, bintang adalah sebuah benda hitam yang bersinar dengan kecemerlangan yang besar. Dalam perbandingan terbalik terjadi pada Black hole sun, jumlah energi yang diserap adalah lebih besar, hal tersebut karena bobot bintang sangat masif.

5. Tidak ada bintang hijau, meskipun ada klaim dari pengamat bintang yang tampak hijau, termasuk Beta Librae (Zuben Eschamali). Sebagian besar pengamat tidak lah melihat hijau kecuali sebagai efek optik teleskop. Secara fisika ini dapat dijelaskan dengan teori spektrum yang melalui optik. Faktanya bahwa, bintang memiliki warna umum, dari suhu rendah ke suhu yang lebih tinggi, yaitu merah, oranye, kuning, putih dan biru. Jadi tidak ada bintang hijau.

6. Matahari adalah bintang "kerdil". Bagi kita yang terbiasa berpikir Matahari sebagai bintang "normal", mulailah berubah. Namun kabar baiknya adalah, bahwa matahari kita masih berusia muda. Secara umum ukuran bintang berdasarkan usia dimulai dari "kerdil," "raksasa" dan "super-raksasa" (supergiants). Tahapan selanjutnya adalah meluruh, supernova dan bintang mati. Jadi secara teknis, Matahari adalah bintang kerdil, yang terus mengembang.

7. Lubang hitam tidak "menghisap"?? Banyak orang sering menggambarkan lubang hitam sebagai sebuah lubang yang menghisap dan memakan segala hal berada di sekitarnya. Dan itu merupakan kekhawatiran umum bagi manusia, menganggap Lubang hitam sebagai ancaman bagi keberadaan bumi nantinya bila berada terlalu dekat dengannya. Namun faktanya, untuk sejumlah alasan, lubang hitam pada umumnya tidak "mengisap." Ini bukan hanya perbedaan definisi, seperti dalam cara kerja sebuah penyedot debu, tidak sama dengan bagaimana lubang hitam menarik materi. Dalam penyedot debu, kipas menghasilkan vakum sehingga tekanan udara luar menjadi lebih besar, mendorong udara ke dalamnya, membawa bersama kotoran longgar dan debu. Dalam kasus lubang hitam, tidak ada proses hisap yang terlibat. Sebaliknya, materi ditarik ke dalam lubang hitam dengan daya tarik gravitasi yang sangat kuat. Dalam satu cara untuk memvisualisasikan itu, seperti jatuh ke dalam lubang. Gravitasi adalah kekuatan fundamental Alam dan semua materi memiliki itu. Ketika sesuatu ditarik ke dalam lubang hitam, proses ini lebih seperti ikan yang ditarik oleh pemancing. Perbedaannya mungkin terlihat sepele, tetapi dari sudut pandang fisika, hal tersebut merupakan hal yang fundamental. Jadi lubang hitam tidak mengisap.
